Getting tattoed
Here are a couple things to remember while getting tattooed:
Make sure you breathe! This sounds silly but a lot of the time, people are focusing what’s going on and just forget to breathe!
If you need to stop at any point, let your artist know! Whether it’s because you’re light headed, need a smoke/bathroom break, or just need a minute, it’s totally fine to stop!
Staying still is super important during the tattoo process, but you can still talk, drink water, snack, use your phone, etc.
All tattoos are done with single use clean equipment. Stations are cleaned in between each client and needles and cartridges are opened at the time of the appointment.
Tattoos always start with the outline from the bottom up, it then goes onto shading and then color, if you choose color. If you aren’t sure if you want color or black and grey tattoo, start with black and grey. You can always add color but you can’t take it away once it’s there.
After the tattoo is done, your artist will prompt you to look in the mirror and check it out to make sure you’re satisfied with the piece, then they will wrap it up with a classic bandage or saniderm. the difference between the two can be fined on the aftercare page. Classic is a bandage you keep on for just an hour or so, wash it when you get home and do regular aftercare. Saniderm is a clear protective bandage you can keep on for up to 7 days. We provide a card with all the aftercare instructions on it when you leave, along with a sticker that says you got your first tattoo with us!
We are always available to answer any questions you might have, so don’t hesitate to reach out! We have an FAQ page where we answer the most common questions we get from clients, if you’re still curious make sure you check it out!
What to expect for your first tattoo
Before the appointment
The most important thing you need to do before the appointment is make sure you are hydrated! Being dehydrated or drinking water the night before your appointment can affect your skin, making it harder to tattoo. Eating before the appointment is also important.
Make sure you aren’t putting lotion on the area day of and no fake tan. Wearing lotion up to the day of the tattoo does help, but not day of!
We will do everything needed to prepare the skin for the tattoo, along with shaving and cleaning the area but, tattooing is a clean process so make sure you shower day of.
Your artist will not have a design available until day of the appointment. Since client rescheduling and cancellations do happen, the artists don’t draw too much in advance and are usually making modifications until day of. This is not to say they wait until day of to draw, they are just always working to perfect the design until the time of the appointment.
Before the tattoo
When you arrive for your appointment you will fill out a release form consenting to the tattoo, we will check your ID to make sure you are 18 years or older.
Your artist will then show you the design they have available. Please keep in mind that the design is without shading and coloring. THIS IS THE TIME TO MAKE MODIFICATIONS!! If there is anything you are unsure about in the design, please tell us. Modifications are easy on the iPad and usually don’t take too long and we would much rather you tell us you don’t like an aspect of the design than be unhappy with your tattoo afterwards. This is also when your artist will ask about sizing, they will print out a couple options for sizing on regular paper and hold it up to the area to make sure you’re happy with the size. Then, they will make the stencil at the size you both choose.
Your artist will prep your skin by making sure the area is clean and shaved. Stencil placement can be changed as many times as you need, but please keep in mind once the stencil ink dries, it is very hard to get off so if you think you might want a different placement, please let your artist know! (I promise they don’t mind moving the stencil.) Once you agree on placement, now it’s time to tattoo!
